IoT INFRASTRUCTURE FOR USPS
THE CHALLENGE
The United States Postal Service (USPS), with its vast network of nearly 30,000 offices, needed to create an infrastructure of IoT solutions to serve growing client needs nationwide. USPS collaborated with AJProTech to research and recommend IoT solutions for various logistics needs: from parcel tracking to infrastructure access control. Across several independent projects, we collaboratively engineering IoT systems that would provide enhanced visibility for USPS logistics operations. AJProTech provided comprehensive research of existing IoT solutions, identified key vendors, and assisted with customization and procurement of the most applicable solutions for pilot projects.
Our approach
Recognizing the need for a comprehensive approach, USPS engaged AJProTech to explore potential solutions. We initiated our Feasibility Study, a critical first step in our product development process, to explore potential paths forward.
During this process, we:
- Worked with USPS to identify the key challenge and desired results.
- Investigated the market and reviewed current hardware options.
- Defined technical needs and developed a hardware specification.
- Connected with suppliers to review available off-the-shelf products.
- Evaluated the pros and cons of custom development.
- Estimate production cost at different volumes.
- Supported final decision-making to move the project into full development.
THE SOLUTION
IMPROVING SHIPPING OPERATIONS
USPS is the nation largest logistics operator serving companies nationwide. USPS always looks for ways to create better customer experience: from accessing USPS offices to providing precise visibility of valuable shipments. As part of joint effort between USPS innovation team and AJProTech, we identified and sourced a combination of IoT products to improve shipping operations as a part of innovation effort. AJProTech leveraged our industrial connections to source wireless IoT products for various business needs. Low power wireless IoT devices play important role in USPS operations and customer can expect more innovation across their interaction with USPS.
SMART OFFICE ENTRY
We developed a system that allows customers to access USPS offices even after hours. To support this, we sourced control panels with vandal-resistant features suitable for installation on office doors. The smart office entry system enhances user convenience while improving overall security and operational efficiency. This solution reflects USPS’s commitment to modernizing customer access and streamlining facility management through innovative technology.
IMPACT
Our feasibility study provided USPS with a clear, actionable path forward – combining technical insight, market analysis, and cost modeling into a single strategic roadmap. Rather than jumping into development, we validated key assumptions early, minimizing risk and aligning the solution with real business needs. Backed by our expertise in IoT systems and deep connections in the hardware industry, we identified the most effective approach – balancing off-the-shelf components with custom development where it made sense.
