CE marking is the manufacturer’s declaration that a product meets every EU directive and regulation that applies to it. A lab can provide test reports, but no agency “issues” the CE mark. The manufacturer signs the EU Declaration of Conformity and must keep the technical file for ten years after the last unit is placed on the EU market.

Radio, Cybersecurity, and Notified Body Risk
For connected devices, the radio function usually drives the largest part of the CE test plan. A product with BLE, Wi-Fi, LTE, LoRa, or UWB is treated as radio equipment under RED, which covers safety, EMC, and efficient spectrum use.
A typical 2.4 GHz connected-device test plan may include:
- EN 300 328 for radio performance.
- EN 301 489-1 and a radio-specific EMC part, often EN 301 489-17.
- EN IEC 62368-1 for product safety.
- EN 62311 or EN 50663 for RF exposure.
A pre-certified wireless module helps, but it does not make the finished product automatically CE-ready. The host PCB, antenna placement, enclosure, power supply, firmware configuration, and integration conditions can all change the compliance result.
