Solution

In the spring of 2023, a visionary team known as Terraglide approached AJProTech with an ambitious idea.

The primary goal of this collaboration is to develop a unique electric vehicle that encapsulates unparalleled ergonomic design, superior maneuverability, and sustainable practices. By leveraging AJProTech’s expertise in engineering and Terraglide’s vision for a revolutionary trike, the project aspires to deliver an unrivaled rider experience that promotes greater accessibility, environmental consciousness, and community engagement.

THE CHALLENGE

While researching the market for electric recumbent tricycles, the AJProTech team concluded that existing models had several major flaws: unattractive designs and limited pedal functionality — most could only be pedaled uphill or downhill, despite being electric.

That’s why we set out to create a truly unique tricycle that meets all key criteria:

  • Fully electric
  • Sleek, eye-catching design
  • Adaptive pedaling – delivers a workout on any terrain (flat roads, uphill, or downhill)

The result? Terraglide — a revolutionary recumbent bike that combines all these features.

OUR APPROACH

At the start of development, our team faced a significant challenge: to engineer an electric bike that met rigorous standards for reliability, maneuverability, and user experience — while also creating a standout design in a crowded market. We began with a Feasibility Study to define our technical approach, then moved into active Proof of Concept and prototyping phases.

Active real-world testing was critical. We put the bike through its paces across diverse terrain — sand, forest trails, asphalt, steep climbs, and descents — to refine performance and validate durability. This hands-on development process allowed us to make substantial improvements when evolving from Model 1 to Model 2. As a result we have enhanced mechanical and electrical systems, plus a more refined aesthetic. Model 2 now offers two premium color options: vibrant green and sophisticated purple.

Product Design

Terraglide is a striking fusion of heroic imagination and nature-inspired innovation. Its form is influenced by the dynamic energy of superheroic storytelling: vehicles imagined to move with intent, power, and grace. Layered with cues from nature and aerospace, the design balances sharp geometry with organic flow. Every surface serves a purpose. Every line speaks to motion. The result is a product that’s comfortable, highly functional, and unmistakably different from anything else in the electric trike category.

Phase 1: Research & Insight

We began by diving deep into rider behavior and unmet needs. Interviews, market research, and field testing led us to a powerful insight: users crave stability, style, and simplicity — without compromise. Terraglide’s foundation was set on this principle of inclusive, effortless motion.

Phase 2: Concept Development

Armed with insight, our industrial design team brought Terraglide to life with bold creativity. Inspired by aviation and automotive forms, we sculpted a sleek, low-profile body that hugs the road and turns heads. Material studies balanced strength and weight, while the aesthetic emphasized both futuristic appeal and real-world functionality.

Phase 3: Engineering Integration

Our cross-functional team tackled key challenges, integrating steer-by-wire controls, custom electronics, and a pedal generator into a compact and efficient chassis. Every component was validated for performance and manufacturability.

Phase 4: Product Validation

We built and tested several functional prototypes. Each iteration brought improvements in ride quality, safety, and system cohesion, bringing Terraglide to the final, production-ready form.

ELECTRONICS DESIGN

At AJProTech, we designed our e-bike electronics across five specialized circuit boards to solve real engineering challenges. Long wires caused interference, and cramming everything onto one board led to overheating and performance issues. By distributing functions — like motor control, power management, and user interfaces — onto dedicated processors, we improved reliability, simplified troubleshooting, and made future upgrades easier. The STM32 chips handle real-time motor and power tasks, while the ESP32 manages displays and wireless connectivity, each playing to their strengths.

This modular approach also ensures consistent performance across all units. Critical systems like steering and motor control run on a separate high-speed CAN bus, free from interference. Placing analog sensors closer to their controllers eliminated signal noise, while the distributed design prevents one component from overloading the entire system. The result is a cleaner, more robust architecture that’s ready for new features — without the headaches of tangled wiring or overtaxed processors.

Firmware

  • Reliable electronics based on STM32, bring up performance and real-time control of each part of the bike
  • Processing and filtering of 3-axis Joypad to provide smooth and elegant control of bike movement
  • Control of motors, steering, linear actuator for brake and other parts in real-time with CAN
  • Smooth UI based on LVGL library running on ESP32 board, that responsible for bike status and BLE connectivity
  • BLE App for all data and sensors streaming, OTA updates and precise bike tuning

BATTERY

You can ride up to 50 miles on a full charge. The trike also includes a charging station that plugs into any standard wall outlet. A full charge takes approximately 8.5–9 hours — just plug it in overnight, and it'll be ready to go by morning!

Recumbent seat: It is designed for extra comfort and support for your entire body.

Two storage compartments: One in the front and another behind the seat provide ample space for all your essentials.

The self-adjusting pedal system gives users full control over their ride. Pedal to generate energy and charge the battery, or let the motor do the work — the vehicle keeps moving either way.

Powerful battery: A fully charged 50Ah battery grants you up to 50 miles (80 km) of range. It's time to explore!

How we built this

As this groundbreaking project progresses, it promises to not only redefine personal transportation but also inspire a new generation of riders and creators to imagine and realize a more sustainable future. We put an immense amount of attention to details regarding mechanical design, safety, and comfort.

IMPACT

Terraglide showcased its latest models at the Abundance360 exhibitions in Los Angeles in both 2024 and 2025. The first model earned three Platinum MUSE Design Awards, while the second was honored with the prestigious A’ Design Award. These innovations have captured widespread attention, with videos of the bikes gaining thousands of views across social media platforms.

Through this collaboration, Terraglide and AJProTech aim to set a new standard in electric vehicle design and functionality. The Terraglide Electric Recumbent Trike is not just a vehicle but a statement of intent toward a more sustainable, inclusive, and connected society. By fostering innovation in urban mobility, Terraglide and AJProTech envision a future where transportation is not only about reaching destinations but also about the journey towards a greener, more equitable world.
