Velocity Based Training, the methodology where load is regulated not just by weight on the bar but by the speed of movement, has been scientifically validated for over 30 years. Yet it remains almost entirely absent from commercial gyms and independent athletes. Four barriers kept it locked inside university labs and professional programs: hardware that cost thousands and required cables, a dependence on human coaches to interpret the data, no wearable device built for the athlete rather than the researcher, and no software capable of delivering recommendations in real time.
For years, wearable technology has told athletes what already happened. Sleep scores, recovery metrics, readiness dashboards all land after the session is over, when the decisions that mattered have already been made. The fitness industry built a generation of devices optimized for passive tracking, and the largest platforms are now commoditizing that category at scale. What never existed was the other side of the equation: a system that reads what the body is doing in real time, inside the session, and acts on it before the next rep. Not a summary, or a recommendation for tomorrow. A decision made at the point of training, when it still changes the outcome.
Velocity AI arrived with the software stack, the training methodology, and a clear vision: proactive AI coaching delivered in real time, not passive data gathered after the fact. What the team needed was hardware built to match.
At AJProTech, we brought our custom hardware developments to the project, internal tools and architecture built over years of wearable engineering that compressed what would typically take months into weeks. Rather than starting from zero, we applied that foundation to build exactly what Velocity AI required: a purpose-built wrist-worn device engineered to stream raw movement data directly to the Velocity AI application.
Velocity AI is a closed-loop coaching system on your wrist. It reads your bar speed rep by rep, interprets what it means for your readiness and fatigue, and tells you exactly what to do next, before you guess wrong.
The device is currently running a pilot across America for live showcases. It runs the full Velocity AI system: capturing bar velocity rep by rep at 200 readings per second, feeding the onboard AI engine that interprets neuromuscular readiness and fatigue state in real time, and delivering load and set recommendations before the next rep is pulled.
The prototype was designed for production from the first revision.
